I have always considered our local satellite TV, Astro, a waste of money although I do long to watch some of the channels on it like the All Food Network and the CSI crime episodes. However, the monthly payments of over RM100 didn’t fit into my savings plan and hence I’ve always been reduced to whatever good or crappy things our local national and private TV stations dole out.

But guess what happened as a result of my smart money tip?

I almost missed the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics on 08-08-08!

I heard that Astro will be doing a live telecast of the Opening Ceremony tonight and I panicked when a quick search online revealed that none of the private TV stations will be airing the same! TV3, 8TV and NTV7 totally disappointed me this time!

Luckily, a quick check of RTM1 revealed that they will be covering the opening ceremony tonight from 8.30pm onwards to midnight! *Whew*

All is saved!!

Now, I can still stick to my savings plan and watch the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening in the comfort of my own home without having to spend on supper at the local mamak!
