It’s the Malaysian school holidays next week! This is when families usually take to the roads to travel to their hometowns or kampungs or to simply take their children for a holiday in a nearby resort, mountain or beach. If you are planning a road trip this school holidays, don’t forget these travelling tips below to help you save during your trip!
- Save on your fuel consumption before your trip by reading up on these useful fuel saving tips brought by Shell.
- Plan your trip in advance and bring maps if unfamiliar with the roads to avoid wasting fuel through driving around aimlessly if you are lost.
- Check the road traffic situation with PLUS before starting your journey to see if the highways are jammed. Driving in heavy traffic will cost you more in fuel.
- Decide if you would prefer taking the trunk roads or highways. Trunk roads can sometimes be faster than the highways if the traffic is heavy and save you toll charges. Just be careful on those roads as they tend to be narrower than the highways.
- Ensure that you pack enough drinks and snacks in your car, especially if you are travelling with children. The prices of these snacks and drinks will easily be double at the highway rest stops and petrol kiosks.
- Pack some simple sandwiches or food for your family. This way, you will save on paying expensive food prices at the highway rest stops.
- Check your house prior to leaving to ensure that all unnecessary lights, fans and electrical appliances have been switched off to avoid electricity wastage.
